Well I think I have finally understood what the creation of a political commissioners post is all about. Imagine a meeting in the cloistered chambers of the Palace of Westminster shortly after the government announced they would be cutting the number of parliamentary seats.
“I say Boris what are all those poor chaps going to do now? Can’t really have MPs toddling off down the dole office can we? I mean James S will be alright, he has his grooming school for young boys and girls, and Cuthbert has his crack whore farm, but what about the rest?”
“Don’t worry Ronerknee old chap, it’s all ready sorted. We’ll make the police commissioners post political and then they just move a few miles down the road and what’s even better they get to say what get’s investigated.”
“Brilliant Boris! And Johnny public think we are saving them money and giving them a say in how the police are operating.”
“Thought you’d like it Boris.”
It looks very much like the whole thing has embarrassed the Government. 17% was the highest turnout which means by your calculations that 83% of the people didn’t approve of the candidate. Now that’s democracy.
