After my eight day wait for the appointment I finally got to see the quack today. As I expected he had forgot why he asked to see me so when he asked me what he could do for me, I replied;”it would be nice if you could heal me!”
Lets start with why I have waited over eight weeks for the results of: brain scan, heart monitor and ultrasound test they did at New Cross in January. It is quite simple really, whether or not I have a serious condition or everything is fine I would never have found out if I hadn’t asked again today as it seems the doctor who authorised all the tests was a lo cum and all the results were addressed to them. Well the superb administration meant that the file is sitting in the corner of some office somewhere waiting for the lo cum to be called in again to look at the results. Well, if she hasn’t gone back to Pakistan. However, full marks for the doc for finally realising it wasn’t worth holding my breath waiting; he got the receptionist to phone up explaining the situation so it is quite possible I may find out, in a couple of weeks, I should have died in March 😉
Next on the list was the blood pressure nonsense. Despite supposedly wanting to discuss my letter about this he started by asking how the new tablets were doing. I reminded him that I had refused to take them and asked again what was causing the high blood pressure. I might as well been talking to the wall. He went on again about how there was no hard or fast reason but, discounted; obesity, heavy drinking and organ failure. So I then suggested that poor sleep patterns resulting from my snoring might have something to do with it. The NHS direct website warns of this, but he still wasn’t having it. However, he did remember that I had had a 24 hour monitor that found my blood pressure wasn’t found to be high overall but, in the doctors surgery it had been high again; white coat syndrome. He then asked me if I had any anxieties that might cause high blood pressure. I told him only when he tried to get me to take new poisons.
So we left it there, with me winning some cream to counter the side effect of constant itching from the current tablets in return for having another 24 hour monitor session. More fun and games, the cream he had prescribed was in chronic shortage and I was told by BOOTS it wouldn’t be available for a month. Got back to the docs just before he knocked off for the day and he gave me an alternative that so far seems as infective as baby powder.
So it rests for now. April 23rd I get a blood pressure clamped to my arm for 24 hours to see what the true reading is. I will stop taking the tablets a week before so there will be a clean reading. If it is within an acceptable level the tablets will be thrown in the bin and in any case I intend printing off the NHS direct warnings about snoring causing hypertension.
A heart monitor on St.Georges Day? Surely this will give false readings as you read from Henry V!
