With the improving weather I decided this would probably be my last chance to finish off the cementing in front of the garage. I must have started several months ago when Bob fitted our new gates. I have to say, you got to admire Bob’s optimism, I asked him how many bags of cement and ballast he thought I’d need and he reckoned about five. I stopped counting when I got to fifteen.
You are probably aware I am not a fan of DIY, well not when I do really have to do it myself, but there was a drop in front of the garage that was pure mud in winter and did not help anyone reverse straight into the garage. Being a pretty shitty driver, I don’t need any help scraping the sides of the car so I decided to bight the bullet and hopefully make it easier to get in and out.
I know enough about concreting to dig down a tadge before laying it and that it needs a skimming of sand and cement to stop the weather breaking up all the bricks so I knew I had a bit of a task on my hands. I’m glad to say I think I have done enough for now and hopefully it will last as long as I will need to drive in and out.
I’ve no doubt I will get a verdict from Annette that it wasn’t what she wanted but, ‘frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn!’ I have found it hard going and wish I had started twenty years ago but, that would have been silly: we didn’t have a garage then. Make you realise you’re getting old when you try the manual labour 🙂 Not the first choice I’d have made for the sunshine but, it’s done and dusted now.
Best to get these jobs out of the way I think. I’ll pay you back in the depths of winter!
