People who know me will be aware that I like strawberries, the more the merrier. I think I would even eat strawberry flavoured sprouts, a vegetable I consider to be devil produce.

Anyway, on one of my drag-along-shopping trips I found myself in Tesco late at night and amongst punnets of very large strawberries that had been reduced. As they were only a few pence I decided  to ignore the fact a few of them were a bit soggy and one was growing a beard.  No, I had not taken leave of my senses; I had seen a video clip on youtube of some Yank that had picked the seeds off a ‘throw-away’ strawberry and got about 40% germination that eventually produced a crop of large sweet strawberries.

So I had painstakingly picked the seeds off the bearded and soggy ones, placing them onto a paper towel to firstly absorb the juices and secondly provide an easy tear strip when I came to plant them.   They have been carefully hidden in a cold place throughout the winter and today  I have planted them in a germination tub. Fingers  crossed for as much success as the Yank.
