Last night saw the tragic death of the Allies first Flying Ace, Van Puke (pronounced Pook) of the Belgian airforce. Despite being wounded in every sortee of the campaign since April 2012, he had also clocked up an impressive kill ratio to make him the Allies first and only Ace pilot of the campaign to date.
A quiet and unasuming man, renown for his rediculous waxed moustace, it was roumoured he had a crush on the local nurse and that was his reason for constant wounds. He was only known to raise his voice when asking English gentlemen to refrain from raucous laughter whilst playing his favourite sport, snooker.
Despite have flown two previous sortees and downing his forth enemy aircraft, a Fokker triplane, he insisted on leading one more search for a downed British pilot over the German held fron line. He was immediately pounced on by two aircraft of the renown Von Mike’s Flying circus being, neatly boxed in and yet managed to down his fifth kill. It was while this engagement was taking place, he recieved yet another wound, but refusing medical help he went after the remaining German two seater. Despite, or perhaps because of, his loss of blood he managed to fire off his last ammunition into the enemy but, a lucky hit from the tail gunner ended his life.
He will be saddly missed by all who served with him, even his British comrades in arms who costantly insited on using the Anglican pronounciation of his name.
