So today I am suffering with a touch of old age induced sore feet.It was to be my final check up at the snore clinic New Cross and because of the heat I had planned to give myself nearly ninety minutes strolling time. However, the battery watch stopped and I ended up with a 45 minute sprint on my hands.
or should that be feet. I had already decided to put on my canvas shoes (sockless) for coolness and it should have been a nice comfortable stroll but, it turned out to be a bad combination for a rushed journey.
By the time I was halfway there my feet felt like they were blistering and the asphalt paths felt like broken glass underfeet. Managed to get to hospital with five minutes to spare then made the mistake of following the signs for the ward from the inside. I ended up ten minutes late after a trip round half the hospital but, thankfully still got to the appointment.
So this was it: the all singing and dancing cure for my sleep problems. The power mask that blows air into your throat while you sleep. Guaranteed to work (as they haven’t got any other option) I found it easy enough to work the machine and understood the theory but, retained my deep seated scheptism. Twenty minutes later I am dispatched home for a good nights sleep.
Almost as soon as I got back on my feet I regreted the canvas shoes ‘sans socks’. However, I had plenty of time now and took my time on the return journey, more limping than walking but, I managed to get back. It was after I’d rested my feet the soreness really kicked in. Felt like I had scrapped a layer of skin off them or at the very least collected a nice set of blisters.
This I can only put down to the continous ravishes of old age gaining momentum. I’ve never had this result from a little bit of walking before – not even on a forced march in the army. So despite a salt foot bath and plenty of rest I am still rather tender underfoot and expect it will continue for a few more days. Getting old sucks.
By way of a post script: I now have dark red patches covering about half the sole and heal on my left foot. Unless I’m mistaken they are beneath the skin blisters.
I guess it’s a case of ‘Limping fool – hidden blisters’.
