Well Saturday 3rd August helped me finally get to see one of the Beatles bands I’ve been awaiting. I got in for a magnificent £10 and despite the late start it was, despite the dodgy start, a damn good show.
First things first; how did they look? Well given that the ‘John Lennon’ looked more like Sid Little than the original, he did sound pretty good (so long as he didn’t speak). George Harrison didn’t look too much like the real thing, except you could have shaved him clean and he’d lived to be there. Nevertheless, they all sounded pretty damn good. Paul McCartney and Ringo Star, looked like a couple of young Beatles, despite the black country accents. ‘Ringo’ had all the head moves going well and before long it was quite easy to just close your eyes and be back watching them in their hey-day. They were a really good cover act that never made much effort to look like the Beatles.
So I doubt as I can remember much about what they played for they kept on going until the end, with just a few breaks for uniform change. They started with the long ago 1960’s stuff and played right through to the end with the best ever finish; “Hey Jude”. Of course they had the crowd singing along for the final and they were quite a mixed group of people laying into “Hey Jude” chorus along with the group.
I dare say that there were those who could never have seen or heard the Beatles in there hey day, but without a doubt this was £10 well spent. I now look forward to the next Beatles show.
Did they sing in a Black Country way?
Now my good friend, they did a mighty fine Beatles soundtrack.
