Annette, Joy, Adam, Emma, Ashley, Dan, Alicia and Lillian are all back from there trip to see Father Christmas in Finland (Lapland) and it does appear that it went very well considering I heard about the new Covid infection as they took off.
I was left to look after the dog and the rabbit for them with a strick set of warning notes about how to treat Kylo (the wonder dog). I apparantly had also been told about the rabbits ‘weird’ snack in the fridge but, as I spent most of the morning in bed, I mised that. They had a bit of a job getting off as the car was all frozen up, they got the boot open and then it wouldn’t shut again. Annette decided to get our car out of the garrage to get to the airport in but, before she got there Adam had got the boot shut again.
Despite all this fuss they got off and dispared on there flight to Finland to see Father Christmas. You might think it only mattered for Alicia and Lillian but, the rest of the kids were all up for it too. Annette tells me there first dogsleigh ride was a bit of a scary do as most of there vision was blocked as the masks froze up and she kept steering into the trees. However, it must have been worth it as she enjoyed it. However, the Northern Lights were not so visible for all there trouble to get the there, but it was still an adventure.
I’m also told that Annette and Emma had to look after Alicia at bed time as she was forced to share a room with them – why I’ll never know. That however, was neither here nor there. Lillian and Desperate were left behind the next morning as the rest of them went off on the rheindeers. Despite this Dan got the pair of them a ride down the hill on a sleigh so it wasn’t a complete waste of time. The rest of them enjoyed there rides too.
Asking about the food, I was told it was good and mostly mixed up, like a continental meal, and there was plenty of biscuits for anyone to tuck into to. Aparantly, Alicia took 6 massive meatballs and then she was seen going after biscuits a little latter. Annette found out she had put the meatballs back and gone for buiscuits. There was little mention of the meals and as Annette still had little to no taste, that was to be expected.
They got to see Sant, and all went in, but Lillian was crying with the cold so she didn’t get the full bouncing on Santa’s lap job. They had both wrote up their letters and given him to read so, despite the tears it proved a good day out. There are plenty of snaps on Fbuk to see, although most cameras didn’t work in the cold, so you’ll have to give them a look.
The next main thing that happened was the delayed return home. Now as I wasn’t there I could not sort out the seating but, most people were split up again, although there was enough for the children to be with some adults. It was apparantly an icy take off and they had trucks going round spraying the runway with de-icer stuff. Oh, I nearly forgot – they needed to ring up for blood tests on there return due to the African Covid virus. So after about two hour delay they all got off and on there way back to blighty. The dog was looking mighty lownsome as his dinner was delayed but, to his great pleasure he got Adam and Ashleigh walk in about an hour latter.
I know I was an outsider but, I really think they enjoyed it all, even desperate Dan. Emma was full of happines and smiles while she was with us and it was quite an experience for us all.
They managed to get there tests done (cost and arm and a leg) and all have proved that the tests were just a waste of money again. I doubt as there had been anyone out in Finland who had visited South Africa anyway, but that was that.
So now we are all sorted out for our Christmas trip, somewhere near Scarborough – I think, but it will soon be here.
