So Saturday turns up and we eat the last of our breakfast and leave a couple of bottles of water and some butter in the fridge and, with all the booking out done and everything packed up ready to go, we bid farewell to our hotel in the midle of nowhere.  We’re prety certain we have everything and tootle off the the bahnhof ready to get the return flight to England.

After a little chin wag on the long way back to the station we discover we have left all the water behind us in the fridge but, all in all it was a pleasant enough start back to Blighty.  As far as we know we swap trains at Alexanderplatz and then we await the tram down to the airport. We caight the train on time and set off to “Ally-Pally” and even found where to get the conection down south to Flughafen, half an hour wait.

I must point out here that Paul had come out to Berlin without his skid lid, so unlike me with my mighty hat, he’d been getting some sun on his bonce.  Well after a couple of days we found Paul a new skid lid and he got all kitted out for the Berlin sunshine.  He was well impressed with his new skid lid and enjoyed it until we got onto the last train to airport when Paul realised he’d left it behind on the last platform. Sadly it was too late to gack for it, had anyone left it alone, so we went on without it to get the plane.

We very wisely went through the full check in and left the suitase for bungging on the plane, all went smoothly, even though we could see everyone had not yet got off the damn plane to UK.  Well we finally got on board and drifted off into ablivion on our return home.  I know I dozed most of the way back and I’m not sure if Paul did as well but, we all got back in one piece and picked up the suitcase safely, went through our check in and found our way to meet Annette who was waiting to give us a lift home.  She looked pretty fed up by the time we got back into her car but, we got back safely to Paul’s home and set off back to Bilston.

Annette was not so happy that we got back safely, too busy moaning about the extra charges we had paid on the way out.  Still like it or not , we had had our holiday in Berlin.  All in all we can hope that Adam will be fit enough to go to Berlin with me 2024 🙂  I think Andrew might like Berlin, what bit we saw, as there was still a lot of stuff we missed out on this year; we never saw the Fuhrers Bunker ruin, the other bit of the wall, the castle with Fred’s war time stuff in it etc.

Maybe next time……
