Saw some rich nob head on the news this morning advocating the abolishment of the 1p coin as it was no longer of any value! Well let me tell you something you over rich pilchard, if you abandon that coin, or indeed the majority of coins as you suggested, it will fan the fires of inflation and cause an even greater strain of wage packets. (somebody explain to the damn fool what a wage packet is.)
Inflation has more than doubled with the introduction of the New Pence as with £ s d we had; farthings, halfpennies and a penny that was worth only 42% of it’s modern equivalent. When prices rose it was normally by a halfpenny at most, anymore and the public simply refused to buy that product.
Now we have a minimum of 1p rise (2.4d) on everything. If we have to use the minimum of 2p then what will that do to domestic fuel and heating bills? I’ll tell you dumb ass it will make them soar.
I’d like to meet this pompous jackass and explain to him the facts of living without the humble 2.4d coin. We cannot all have more money than sense like him, although I suspect 2p is about his limit.
