Having seen another short clip of England’s spectacular performance in the 1966 World cup final, I was amazed to see that the squad all appeared to be mature men, bald heads an all. Not only was the squad more mature in appearance but, in attitude as well. Bobby Moore was brought down by a nasty tackle but, instead of lying down and crying for his mummy he got straight back up and scored a goal.
Indeed this is true. There has been too much rolling around and crying wolf over the years – I blame the Germans especially Klinsman – but we do lack the aggression to get on with it these days.
