Not like me to take much notice of sports I know, but I have seen bits and pieces of the Commonwealth Games in my time and to my surprise I find myself enjoying it much more than the super hyped up Olympics.  That might just be because the Home Nations seem to be able to hold their own even against the sporting mights of Australia and Canada. This may be to the wide mixture of sports involved from table tennis to crown bowls as well as the general run of the mill track and field events.

The thing that prompted this post was a news report on the Beeb about the Guyana cycling team visiting a Glasgow cycle store for some running repairs.  The report states that the shop has earned a reputation for servicing competitors bikes for free but, they took one look at the teams “Copenhagen clones” and gave them new bikes. In my books that is a truly sporting gesture  that bemoans all the meanness gags about the Jocks and I would have thought worthy of a free mention of the shop’s name but, the BBC kept them anonymous.

The other thought that crossed my mind was that we were being allowed to win!  I saw Jamaica v England mixed doubles  table tennis and England were getting thrashed.  Perhaps it was just my imagination but, I saw the Jamaicans pass a look and they lost the rest of the games.  Whether it is my shock at seeing British teams win or the lack of cut throat competition I don’t know but, I can say  even the Jersey v Northern Ireland crown bowls held my interest.

Well done Glasgow, well done Commonwealth 🙂
